Weight : 645 g
We present here in its entirety the correspondence of Nissim de Camondo to his father. It is completed by his campaign diary as well as letters addressed to other recipients and chosen according to their interest.
Nissim de Camondo was almost 22 years old when he answered the call to arms in August 1914. Day after day, month after month, for three years, Nissim de Camondo wrote to his friends and family to tell them about his struggle. We follow him from the Belgian front to Lorraine, via Verdun, the Chemin des Dames and the Somme. The enthusiasm of his early days as a cavalryman in the 3rd Hussar Regiment was followed, in 1915, by an awareness of the immense cruelty of this war. In 1916, he joined the air force as an observer in squadron 33. From then on, he flew over enemy lines, carried out a considerable number of photographic missions and became a pilot. He died in aerial combat on September 5, 1917.
