Description
Book published on the occasion of the exhibition "Cuckoo Bazaar" presented at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, from 23 October 2013 to 1 December 2013
In 1973 in New York and Paris, then in 1978 in Turin, the spectators of Coucou Bazar witnessed, against a background of discordant music, the evolution on stage of strange costumed characters, named Le Grand Malotru, Marie Tremblote or Niai la Minaude, and surrounded by painted cutouts. Photographs, texts and archival documents retrace in this book the history of this "animated painting" conceived by Jean Dubuffet as a challenge to the conventions of theater, dance and fine arts.
