Description
Like many other genres, sports manga was born in Japan after the war, and has continued to evolve with the times: as manga and Japanese society go hand in hand, one will develop at the same pace as the other. During this long period of transformation, manga established itself in the country as a particularly effective, accessible and popular medium. From the earliest fights in Ashita no Joe to the highly polished matches in Eyeshield 21, sports manga has always found its audience, and reflects Japan's political and economic history. Passionate about stories of all kinds, Antony Teixeira, better known by his pseudonym "Rufio", discovered Japanese comics at an early age. After obtaining his Master's degree in Linguistics and Didactics, he decided to pursue his projects in his KOMA show, available on YouTube. Here, he looks at manga from a technical, social, political and economic perspective.
