Description

From performances to Grand Prix events, from round ball artists to clay geniuses, the analogies between sport and art seem to flow naturally. And indeed, beyond facile metaphors, the world of sport is increasingly inspiring the imagination and practice of artists. This is hardly surprising, given that in the 1860s, the birth of artistic modernity and the advent of sport as a social organization were strictly contemporaneous. As a producer of forms, behaviours, images and sometimes concepts, art was bound to question, explore and rework a sporting universe so rich in forms, images and behaviours. This is what, after the indispensable historical review, La Beauté du geste observes and analyzes based on the works of numerous artists active on the international scene over the last thirty years. Among them: Carlos Amorales, Iain Baxter, Stefan Banz, Matthew Barney, Roderick Buchanan, Neal Beggs, Maurizio Cattelan, Gérard Deschamps, Richard Fauguet, Fabrice Gygi, Cameron Jamie, Jacques julien, Bertrand Lavier, Gilles Mahé, Gianni Motti, Simon Patterson, Bruno Peinado, Pascal Rivet, Alain Séchas, Vibeke Tandberg, Salla Tykkä and many more.
