Description

Firstly, a portrait of a friend, these few pages - published in 1932 and never reprinted - depict Raoul Dufy as a tenacious dreamer who, full of confidence, was never afraid to take the most perilous paths to bring his work to fruition.

With his unyielding optimism, this multifaceted artist, a leading figure of the 20th century, stopped at nothing - not even the fictitious purchase of a Provençal château - and ultimately established himself as a role model. This 'inventor of forms', close to tradition yet imbued with modernism, immersed himself in nature in order to better distance himself from it. In his favourite fields of wood engraving and fabric printing, he strove to be free from any domination. Fernand Fleuret, poet and critic, recounts the adventures of his 'dear scatterbrain', details his technique and, in just a few pages, brings art and friendship to life.
