'I long so much to see your face when you are happy, I think about it often,' wrote Marie Laurencin to her lover Nicole Groult, while the war had separated them. One is a well-known painter, former mistress of Apollinaire, the other a talented dressmaker, sister of Paul Poiret and married to André Groult. We follow their two incandescent destinies in the Paris of the Belle Époque, from 1907 to the early 1920s, which were 'those of a perpetual party'. It never occurs to them that their mutual desire might be wrong: they are ahead of their time, with no other claim than their freedom and pleasure. Surrounded by Apollinaire, Picasso, Braque, Rousseau, Picabia and Roché, they will not let anyone break their bond, which will last their whole lives.
