Description
What if a headdress became the starting point for a metamorphosis?
Fascinated by traditional Asian techniques and ceremonial objects, Marion Delarue used her residency at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris to explore the art of featherwork. At the heart of her research was diancui, an ancient Chinese technique of inlaying kingfisher feathers, which she examined alongside Western craft traditions.
Her immersion in the museum's collections gave rise to four striking headdresses with intriguing forms, combining feathers, leather and mother-of-pearl. Spanning several series of works, this catalogue reveals a world where ornament transforms and the boundaries between adornment, object and sculpture begin to blur.
With wit and inventiveness, Marion Delarue questions what it means to wear an object and plays with ideas of illusion and metamorphosis.
